US Magazine, who has been on top of a lot of things recently, is reporting that rapper and producer Pharrell Williams and one third of the Jonas Brothers, Nick Jonas, could be new judges for 'American Idol' along with Mariah Carey.
Jennifer Lopez and Steven Tyler are out, with mainstay Randy Jackson moving to a "mentor" position on the show. Does that mean they'll be getting rid of Jimmy Iovine, that's pretty much his job on the show besides being the baseball cap wearing curmudgeon. Jonas and Williams are the frontrunners for the two remaining judging positions according to multiple insiders. "Nick is pretty close to signing to be the Idol judge," one says. "They flew him in to L.A. last week for final meetings." Jonas is the lead singer in his brother's band and spent four months on Broadway in How to Succeed In Business Without Really Trying. Producers think he can bring a younger demo to the show but do kids still care about him?
Pharrell is said to still be negotiating a contract, "Everything is looking good, but they're still working out details," says an insider. He has worked with some of the biggest names in the biz, including Jay-Z, Madonna, Gwen Stefani and X Factor's Britney Spears. I think he would be a great addition to the show, and you know we love Skateboard P here at DiC so we would love to see him on TV every week. Also, it means that the Idol's winning song will be a lot better being produced by Pharrell and maybe co-written by Mariah.
