Designer Alexander McQueen found dead at 40 years of age of an apparent suicide

The young, but already legendary British designer, Alexander (Lee) McQueen was found dead in his upscale London apartment early Thursday morning. His mother, Joyce had passed away just days ago, and it's said McQueen was distraught over the loss.
McQueen wrote the following on his Twitter account:

"I'm letting my followers know the my mother passed away yesterday if it she had not me nor would you RIPmumxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx. but life must go on."

At this stage it is inappropriate to comment on this tragic news beyond saying that we are devastated and are sharing a sense of shock and grief with Lee's family.

McQueen was one of the first designers to really awaken my passion for style and visual expression. I followed his work since he first burst onto the scene, and I felt a kind of kinship, owing to his working-class background. He showed us the magic in life by always questioning the accepted norms, aesthetic and otherwise. McQueen: visionary. RIP. xo
