'The Dark Knight Rises' official site has released the first image of Anne Hathaway as Selina Kyle/Catwoman. Maybe it's just me, but I'm a little disappointed in the lack of cat ears. She seems to be riding Batman's "Batcycle" and a pair of cool looking goggles. So at least there's that. There was a leaked description of what she would look like in the movie:
"Anne’s outfit is more tactical, like the comic book, than the previous Batman movies. She will definitely be wearing the goggles and it’s going to be less sexy than Halle Berry and Michelle Pfeiffer’s Catwoman costumes. She’s going to look more like a robber....But fan boys shouldn’t be worried. This costume is going to be form-fitting enough to make Anne look smoking hot....Everything from the looks in her eyes, her head movements, her body–everything is so feline. The role is taking her to new places"
My eyes just rolled out of my head. People are being pretty critical now, but I guess we'll have to wait and see how she looks in action when the movie comes out next year. It still doesn't compare to the other costumes of her feline predecessors.
The first woman to don the tight, black suit was Julie Newmar in the 1966 Batman series. Newmar constructed the outfit herself using a semi-metallic yarn called Lurex.
When she had prior commitments, former beauty queen Lee Meriwether took over and donned the shiny, black catsuit.
For the third season, Eartha Kitt made the role her own with her trademark purr.
Of course who could forget Michelle Pfeiffer's manic and sexy Catwoman in Tim Burton's classic 'Batman Returns.' Her stitched PVC costume is probably the most famous. Pfeiffer beat out the likes of Susan Sarandon and Bridget Fonda for the role of Selina Kyle. Can't imagine anyone else but her playing that part now.
And who could forget Halle Berry's disaster of a movie, 'Catwoman'. Instead of the Selina Kyle character, a new one was created with Patience Phillips who is a thief, briefly, but is mostly the hero when she takes down a makeup company that...yeah I don't remember. Her costume was definitely the most revealing with torn leather pants, a push-up bra and open-toed boots. 'Catwoman' was a total bomb, but her costume went on to be a (slutty) Halloween favorite.
