Maya Rudolph and Sleigh Bells On Saturday Night Live

Photo/Videos: NBC

Maya Rudolph made her return to SNL with musical guest Sleigh Bells. I'm surprised she hadn't been asked to host sooner. When an SNL alum comes back to host, or anyone that they actually like (see Timberlake), the writers put out good work and it makes for a hilarious show.

The show's cold open was all about "Lin-sanity" on ESPN, how topical. Then Maya kicked thing off by singing Sylvester's "Do You Wanna Funk," where very early we got cameos by Paul Simon (how random) and the ever twitchy Stefon. The first sketch was an old favorite, "Bronx Beat" with Amy Poehler, oh and Justin Timberlake decided to show up too.

JT  then popped up in the Jay-Z and Beyonce sketch as Justin Vernon of Bon Iver, accidentally putting himself to sleep. Check out Nasim Pedrad as Nicki Minaj and Kristen as the always surprised Taylor Swift. I always appreciate Jay Paroah's impressions, he does a good Jay-Z. Taran Killam has been on point this season, and his Brad Pitt made me love him more. Fred was Prince, and it made me miss when he and Maya did "The Prince Show" sketches. Join me under the waterfall and climb the rainbow tree!

The sketches after "Weekend Update," which featured "Really? With Seth and Amy" by the way, usually aren't that good, but I loved the "The Obama Show" which featured the Obamas with their own Cosby-like show. Joe Biden as Theo and Hilary Clinton as Rudy, please make this happen in real life!

Making up for the boring Lana Del Rey and the not as good as they thought they were, KarminSleigh Bells rocked the house with a song from their new album Reign Of Terror, "Comeback Kid."

Next week is a rerun, but we can look forward to Lindsay Lohan and Jack White for the March 3rd episode. Should be...interesting.
