Michael Douglas has “beaten his cancer”…
In an interview with The Today Show this morning, actor Michael Douglas told Matt Lauer that he was cancer-free. “I’ve got [cancer] beat,” he said in his first interview since undergoing treatment for throat cancer. Douglas' last interview was with David Letterman last year when he was promoting "Wall Street 2: Money Never Sleeps." This was around the time he announced he was battling cancer.
"I feel good, relieved," Douglas told Lauer. "The tumor is gone. But, you know, I have to check out on a monthly basis now to maintain." As he recovers from radiation and chemotherapy, he says he stills has months to go of getting checked out, but that the last six months have been "a wild ride." As he recovers, the actor says his appetite is back and he's slowly gaining the weight he lost during his illness. "I lost about 32 lbs.," he says. "And I've put about 12 back. But, I mean, I got another 20, 25 to go."
Douglas' next project will be a biopic about Liberace co-starring Matt Damon. "So you've allowed yourself to look that far down the road?" asked Lauer. "Yeah, oh, absolutely," said Douglas. "I think the odds are with the tumor gone and what I know about this particular type of cancer that I've got it beat."
Glad that Michael feels healthy enough to return to work and hope continues to be cancer-free.
