The new season of 'American Idol' premieres next week, and if you'll be watching along with us chances are it's because you want to see the drama between new judges Nicki Minaj and Mariah Carey. At Tuesday's TV Critics Press Tour, the two divas got into it again, trading barbs and shade. They had a tense exchange, but otherwise kept it cute.
"We’re professionals. Have you ever had an argument with someone you’ve worked with?" Minaj said after repeated questions Tuesday about her reported feud with new fellow judge Carey."This was sort of one-sided," interjected Carey, wearing a smile. "No, it wasn’t," snapped back Minaj. When later asked if they were getting along, Mariah had this to say; "The whole thing is convoluted ... It's a distraction from the show, and it's a distraction from the contestants and it's unfair to them. It shouldn't be about us."
I agree, but we all know that's not what the producers of the show want, even Nicki admitted the big draw of the show is the "drama."
I doubt this truce will last long, and frankly I see no problem with the two of them not being BFFs. In a 'Nightline' interview with Barbara Walters on Monday night, Carey was asked about a line in Nicki's song "Hell Yeah," where she says "I'm quick to check a bitch if she is out of line." Mariah responded with a quick, and hilarious, "Don't know. I didn't know she sang. I thought she rapped. Or whatever."
'American Idol' premieres it's 12th season on Wednesday January 16 at 8 p.m. on FOX, will you be watching?
