‘The Voice’ Recap, Night 2 Of The Battle Rounds

After Monday's night's fantastic last battle I was wondering if the contestants up tonight would be able to top that. None of them did, but it was still a good show and I think Christina and Adam presented the best battles of the night.

Team Cee Lo

Putting two of his best singers together might have thrown Cee Lo off a bit, because dancer Domo and country boy Cody Belew were a weird pairing. The other coaches were glad they didn't turn for Domo during the blind auditions, sensing they dodged a bullet because she is a lot to deal with. Since then it seemed she had calmed down a bit because she took to Lady Gaga's "Telephone" better than Cody.

Cee Lo picked the song because he said it would give them a chance to show off their dancing but only one of them is an actual dancer and the other just likes to shake his booty. Rob Thomas gave them pointers on how to hit certain notes in the song but Cody was still having a problem with his parts. Technically, the song is  a duet and it would have been easier if only one of them sang Gaga's parts and the other sang Beyonce's but that would have been too easy, right? Later Cody told Cee Lo that he was worried about Domo kicking his ass because she's a girl and well Cee loves the ladies and he just wanted a fair chance. Domo, who was dressed like a low budget Janet Jackson, sounded better than Cody and really just took over the whole stage. Both Adam and Christina were surprised that she didn't let her ego get in the way of the performance. Despite her overall cray cray-ness, I think Domo would have been more versatile, but Cee Lo sticks with Cody.

Team Christina

Xtina paired Aquile with 15-year old Nathalie Hernandez and gave them James Morrison's "You Give Me Something" to sing. Aquile was more familiar with the song and I think it was better suited for his voice. Billie Joe Armstrong compared Nathalie's voice to that of a Norah Jones or Natalie Merchant, which gave her a bit of confidence, but Christina told her that she needed to be "fearless" and really attack the song. During the final rehearsals, Aquile got distracted by Xtina worried that he was losing focus because she really wanted them to work together during the performance. On stage the pair sounded nice together, but I thought Nathalie came off a bit shaky towards the end. The coaches are split in who they liked more, Cee Lo thought Aquile sounded "perfect" and Adam liked how mature Nathalie sounded. Christina picks Aquile as the winner, possibly hoping that Blake would have stolen Nathalie because she said she thought Nathalie would have been great for his team.

We didn't get to see the whole battle, but Christina also put Celica Westbrook against Lisa Scinta. They sang Kelly Clarkson's "My Life Would Suck Without You" and Christina chose Celica as the winner.

Team Blake

Due to time, or maybe it was just that boring I don't know, we didn't get to see all of Blake's battle either. Mr. Smog Charlie Rey sang against Rudy Parris and after the snippet of "Bad Day" I can see why Blake went with Rudy.

Team Adam

Adam put his two "unique" singers together for Ellie Goulding's "Lights." I adored Melanie Martinez during the blinds and and was excited to see how she would during the battles. She was paired with Caitlin Michele and Adam wanted them to make the song "cool and weird." Caitlin had to get over some pitch problems while Mary J. Blige was impressed with Melanie's depth. Overall they both had to work on their harmonies and Adam ended up disappointed with them during the final rehearsals which left Melanie crying and worried about the battle.

While I liked Melanie more during the rehearsals, I thought Caitlin sounded better on stage and I liked how they re-worked the song to fit their styles. The other coaches didn't help Adam with his choice much. Blake couldn't decide who he liked better and Christina thought it was "pretty" and not overdone. Adam picks Melanie, and that left the door open for Blake and Cee Lo to steal Caitlin. "My full name is Unique CeeLo Green," Cee said to Michele and with that he added another member to his team.

What did you think of Tuesday night's battles? Are the coaches putting the wrong singers together? Let us know!
