“The Voice” – Week 2 Recap

Cee-Lo and Adam on The Voice, being all kinds of cute.

I must say that I was a little disappointed with the contestants on this week's show.  I can see the issue the coaches faced was picking someone who may have had potential, but didn't sound good at the moment. The singers biggest problem was apparently song choice. According to Frenchie, the former American Idol contestant who got through last week, there were only a handful of songs to choose from. She sang Katy Perry's "I Kissed A Girl"--not an obvious choice for her, really.  So I think a lot of singers got screwed over with this situation.  It also messed up Joshua Scott, who picked a Lady Gaga song. Well, his other problem was that he mumbled and seemingly forgot some of the words.

Blake Shelton got a lot of attention with the amount of singers who chose songs by him and his future wife, Miranda Lambert. Cherie  Oakley was sent to Team Christina after singing one of Miranda's songs and she had also just written a song for Reba McEntire who will be helping Blake with his team next week. I'm sure she was counting on Blake picking her, but if you're going to sing a song by his fiancee, do it right.

Then there was Curtis Grimes who dared to do "Hillbilly Bone". Blake wasn't feeling it, but he did get picked by Team Cee-Lo. Later, Angela Wolff sang Miranda's "The House That Built Me", which didn't go over well with Blake either. It was too personal of a song for him, but I think that Angela sounded better than that Cherie girl. She was later chosen by Team Adam during the second blind auditions after singing one of Adele's hits.

If American Idol can squeeze all of their crap into two hours, now an hour and a half show, then The Voice can show all the singers. Cut out all the crap with their parents and show the goods.  The big standout was Nakia who bravely sang "F*** You" by Cee-Lo. After seeing his performance for weeks leading up the show, I was wondering how he did--he was picked by Team Cee-Lo, of course.

After another blind audition, Adam, Christina and Blake found the rest of their singers. Not sure how Team Christina is going to do; she was a sucker for high notes and loud voices--ahem--and she picked the wrong guy to be on her team.

Next week sees the teams competing against each other. Monica is working with Cee-Lo and Reba is with Blake. I hope Adam and Christina chose equally good mentors, because I want to see them all bring it!
