The Fab Five earned gold for America during Tuesday's events for the All-Around team competitions. This is the first time that the US women's gymnastics team has won gold since the Magnificent Seven back in 1996.
Gabby Douglas, known as the "Flying Squirrel" scored the most points, competing on all four apparatuses. Team captain Aly Raisman teared up before she finished her floor exercises, knowing she had gained the 10.3 points they needed to beat Team Russia. Their team mates, McKayla Maroney, Jordyn Weiber and Kyla Ross, helped them clench their win also scoring high on the vault, beam and bars. I couldn't help but tear up watching them complete the floor exercises, knowing that they would be at the top of that podium. How cute was it to see them holding hands as they waited for their score!
I have to give a shout out to Russia's Aliya Mustafina, not only for her cool-ass name, but for also performing under immense pressure after a few mistakes. They'll be going home with Silver, so they definitely aren't losers, and I'm sure we'll be seeing her at the next Olympics.
